How psychoanalysis can mediate regressive processes, influencing individuals, groups, and society, is considered. A third perspective from which psychoanalysis is practiced is developed in this conceptualization. The inescapable nature of the third position in psychoanalytic clinical work stems from the requirement for symbolization and working through to be grounded in a common cultural discourse. A new framework for conceptualizing trauma is presented, expanding upon the notion of a third perspective relative to a comprehensive landscape, encompassing the subject's interactions with dyadic, embodied, interpersonal, and collective experiences, along with cultural and discourse-based contexts.
